Scrabble Words With J
There is one J in the bag and it is worth eight points. Unlike X, it almost always needs a vowel beside it, so the short list below is the part worth memorising.

Short J words
JO is the two. JAB, JAG, JAM, JAR, JAW, JAY, JET, JEU, JIB, JIG, JOB, JOE, JOG, JOT, JOW, JOY, JUG and JUT are the threes. Most need only one vowel, which is why the J is easier to place than the Q.

Where to put it
The J earns its keep on a double or triple letter square inside a short word. JAY on a double letter under the J is nineteen points from three tiles, and it does not open a line for your opponent the way a long play across the board can.
