Scrabble Word Score Calculator

One point: A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T, R. Two points: D, G. Three points: B, C, M, P. Four points: F, H, V, W, Y. Five points: K. Eight points: J, X. Ten points: Q, Z. Blanks are worth nothing at all.

The distribution matters as much as the value: there are twelve Es and only one Q, so a Q play is rare and a well-placed Q is often decisive.

Add the value of every tile in the word. Apply letter multipliers to the individual tiles that sit on them, then apply word multipliers to the whole total. If a play covers two double word squares, the word total is doubled twice — that is a quadruple.

Premium squares only count on the turn a tile is first placed on them. Playing through an existing word re-uses its letters at face value.

When your play forms more than one word, each word is scored separately and any premium square under a newly placed tile applies to every word that tile is part of. Parallel plays exploit this: a single high-value tile on a double letter square can be counted three or four times in one turn.

A blank contributes zero points, but it still triggers word multipliers, so a blank on a triple word square is far from wasted. Using all seven tiles adds 50 points after multipliers are applied.

WordCue searches a bundled open English word list of more than 350,000 entries. It is deliberately broad, so it contains words that a tournament lexicon such as TWL or SOWPODS may not accept. Treat unusual finds as candidates and check them against whichever dictionary your game uses before you challenge or play them.
