Wordle Tips to Solve Faster

A strong first guess should contain several different vowels and common consonants, rather than repeated letters. Words like CRANE, SLATE or ADIEU are popular openers because they sample high-frequency letters (A, E, R, S, T) that appear in a large share of five-letter words.

Rather than trying to guess the actual word on your second attempt, use it to test a fresh set of letters that don't overlap with your first guess. For example, if CRANE gave you no green tiles, a good follow-up like MOIST tests four completely new letters (M, O, I, S) while still covering another vowel.

If a guess contains a repeated letter and only one copy comes back coloured, that tells you the answer likely contains that letter exactly once — don't discard it as a duplicate just because one tile came back grey. A yellow tile tells you a letter is in the word but not confirming where — so use later guesses to test that letter in a different position rather than repeating the same spot. If you have a yellow R in position 2, try a guess that puts R in position 4 or 5 instead of leaving it in position 2 again.

A lot of five-letter answers end in common patterns like -ATCH, -OUND or -IGHT, or start with common blends like ST-, CH- or BR-. Once you've confirmed a couple of letters, thinking in terms of these common patterns — rather than trying every word at random — narrows the field quickly.
